Why Tempering Valves Are a Legal Requirement, Not an Upsell
Water stored in a hot water tank is generally kept at a higher temperature than is safe to deliver directly to a tap or shower, both to reduce the risk of bacterial growth in the tank and to extend effective hot water volume. A tempering valve blends that stored hot water with cold water before it reaches bathroom outlets, delivering it at a safe maximum temperature and significantly reducing scald risk — particularly important for young children and elderly residents.
This isn't an optional upgrade — South Australian regulations, aligned with AS/NZS3498, require compliant tempering at bathroom outlets in most residential installations, new hot water systems, and renovated bathrooms. We install to this standard as a default part of every job, not as a quoted extra.
